Shawn Michaels made his debut in Lake Charles, Louisiana on October 10th, 1984. Most people think that Shawn began his career in the AWA with Marty Jannetty and he deciding that whomever got a call first that the other would join them, but, this is not so, he had won the Central States TV belt from a wrestler by the name of Art Crews and had formed the tag team USA Express with Paul Diamond prior to meeting and pairing with Marty Jannetty in early 1985 in the AWA.
The Midnight Rockers, as Jannetty and Michaels were called, were called by the World Wrestling Federation in 1988, their victories in the AWA had brought awareness of their abilities to certain WWF forces and were brought in to the WWF as the Rockers. The Rockers made their way through the WWF beating their opponents, finally capturing the Tag Team belts in October of 1990 by defeating the Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim "the Anvil" Neidhart). This win was an unofficial one, as there was a controversy over the rope coming loose during the match, and the Rockers were forced to give the belts back to the Hart Foundation after one week. At the 1991 Survivor Series is when Michaels and Jannetty began to have their problems, and on February 14th, 1992 Shawn entered the ring with none other than Sherri Martel. "Sensational Sherri" lasted as Shawn's manager until the 1993 Royal Rumble, when Sherri came out supporting Jannetty.
In May of 1993, Shawn brought himself a bodyguard in the form of "BigDaddyCool" Diesel to the ring, as Shawn was defeated by Marty Jannetty for the IC title because of interference by "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig. The relationship between Michaels and Diesel lasted until the Survivor Series in 1994, where a mistimed superkick to Diesel led to them being counted out and Shawn trashing the title belts. In February of 1995 Shawn introduced another bodyguard to the WWF, one by the name of Sid. Shawn was told by Diesel that Sid was not his friend, and on April 3rd, Shawn found this out, the hard way, by ending up out of wrestling for six weeks due to Sid attacking him and Diesel rescuing him.
On September 25th, 1995 The Two Dudes With Attitudes were born, winning the Tag Team belts from Owen Hart and Yokozuna, short that it was, as they had to return the belts the following day due to the fact that Davey Boy Smith was Yokozuna's legal partner. During the next couple of months, the hardships in the WWF would take their toll on the "Heartbreak Kid". After a show in Syracuse NY he was attacked by 9 thugs and was forced to take some time off to recover. He returned for the Survivor Series in 1995, only to collapse the following night during a match with Owen Hart. Rumors were stated that Shawn would have to retire from the World Wrestling Federation, but, as strong as he was when he started, he announced in January of 1996 that he WOULD be in the Royal Rumble and went on to win, being only the second wrestler to win consecutive Rumbles.
Shawn defeated Bret Hart on March 31st of 1996 to win his first Heavyweight belt in an 60 minute Iron Man Match at Wrestlemania 12, going on and defeating Diesel(his last match in the WWF). His reign finally stopped against his "friend" Sid once more, being powerbombed by the insane man. Shawn later won the belt back from Sid, in front of his hometown of San Antonio, at the '97 Royal Rumble. was forced to give it up once again, citing he needed to find "himself" and needed some time off, the WWF gave the story of Michaels having knee problems and needing surgery. Shawn came back, joining forces with Triple H, Rick Rude and Chyna to form DegenerationX. DX became one of the greatest stables of all-time. Michaels won the title belt again from Bret Hart at Survivor Series 97, in a very contreversial ending. Shawn would continue to lead DX until WrestleMania 14 where do to a bad back he lost the world belt to Steve Austin. However despite the fact that Shawn could no longer wrestle that would not keep him out of the picture. In December 1998 HBK came back as the commissioner of the WWF, and has been on and off WWF TV since then.
